When a new year begins, it is typical to want to freshen up your life–your home, your wardrobe, yourself. And nothing freshens things up more than organizing a space in your home that has become…unruly. As we’ve been organizing our own homes in the new year, and because it is national organizing month, we wanted to share some of the products that we love that help keep our spaces (big and small) in shape.
1) Love shoes? We do and we love them even more when we can see them on display. According to Anne, “This is the best shoe rack I’ve ever owned. Holds a lot of shoes, doesn’t tip over or bend, and you can roll it if necessary”. To buy it immediately, click here.
2) One more with shoes, if you don’t have space for an entire rack. This slotted organizer is great for the floor or on a shelf. You can also stack one on top of the other and gives the closet a nice, clean look. There is also a “mixed” version which has different size spaces so you can store boots or other larger shoes. Check it out here.
3) Here is a miscellaneous storage item/piece of furniture shelving unit that looks great and can manage a lot of items. We love to use it in a playroom or living room that needs some extra storage. It’s great because it can be used horizontally or vertically. Vertically it’s great in a tighter space and on the top shelves it keeps things out of reach to grabby hands. However, horizontally it is great because all generations can reach the shelves and not hurt themselves taking out books, toys, etc. The cubed spaces are perfect for basket organization; they fit perfectly so you can’t see what is inside and using baskets with a pattern will give a pop of color to the room and organization. Holler! Also, the spaces are great for holding many books, photo frames, and other keepsakes. Best part? It is only $89 for an eight square unit at Ikea (there is also a smaller and a larger size).
4) Even though it is snowy and cold outside it doesn’t hurt to start getting a plan for that garage. This Fast Track 8 Piece Kit is a necessity if you have a yard/garden to take care of – tools are off the ground and stored efficiently on the wall – much smaller than a pegboard and there are all kinds of fun attachments for ladders, power tools, extension cords, bikes, etc. You can also hang multiple tools on one hook. It seriously manages everything so well…it is almost too good to be true. Check it out at Rubbermaid.
5) & 6) For more garage organization or a larger storage area, turn to the magic of chrome shelving – not only is it prettier, it is more sturdy than the plastic shelving and a lot easier to put together than other shelving units out there (believe me, we have cursed plenty of bad ones in our organizing experiences!) I have learned the hard way while organizing my own basement this week that not all storage containers fit onto the shelves efficiently. After some trial and error, I’ve found the perfect ratio is the following:
